How pay and appointments work at World Bank.
The World Bank Group grades staff GA to GK and sets a separate salary range for each country it operates in, so the same grade is a different figure in Washington, Nairobi and New Delhi. Each grade is a band — a minimum, a midpoint and a maximum — with no steps, and where a hire lands inside it depends on experience. Figures are net of tax and quoted per year in each country's own currency.
This is the staff salary structure. World Bank vacancies also advertise Extended Term (ET) and Extended Term Consultant (EC) appointments, whose levels — EC1 to EC4, ET1 to ET4 — are not on this scale and are not published as a country table, so no figure is shown for them rather than a staff-grade figure that would not apply.
A published figure at World Bank is neither take-home nor total package. These are the terms that sit around it.
Terms are the employer's own and can change; the governing staff regulations prevail over anything summarised here. Amounts quoted are the figures in the published document at the time of writing and are reviewed periodically.
